Scholarship Information & Process

The following scholarship application is FOR CATASAUQUA STUDENTS ONLY!

To be an eligible recipient for any of the scholarships through this application process, your complete scholarship application must be submitted to the CHS SCHOOL COUNSELING OFFICE no later than

FRIDAY, APRIL 4, 2025

DIRECTIONS:

  • Proceed: cattysd.org > select a school: Catasauqua High School > Guidance tab > More > Scholarships/Financial Aid

  • Complete the Main Catasauqua Scholarship Application

    • The application is a Google document and should be completed with an electronic device.

      • Make a copy of the Google document and add it to your personal Google drive.

        • Type your responses into your copy of the application.

    • The application should be completed in full; meaning do NOT leave any portion of the application blank.  All information provided will be kept confidential and reviewed only by the scholarship committee of Catasauqua High School.

    • Scholarship candidates should submit the Main Catasauqua Scholarship Application for each award to which they are applying, and any additional materials as noted in the Application Requirements column of the chart below.

      • The scholarships/awards that require an additional form/supplement are as follows:

        • Barrasso Award for Math/Science (Female)

        • Barrasso Award/Vincent E. Spess Award for Community Service

        • Barrasso/Dale Buss Award for Science Education

        • Catty Crew Award

        • Earl Stengel Memorial Award (Class of 1932)

        • Jim Kappes Memorial Scholarship

        • Kenneth C & Shirley J. Wotring Memorial Scholarship 

          • (2 recommendations are required)

        • Leonard Carlton Peckitt Scholarship (separate application process)

        • Michael H. Yaroma Memorial Integrity Scholarship

        • Raymond F. Hoffman Educational Fund

        • Sheckler Elementary Scholarship

        • Slovak Center Social Club of North Catasauqua Award

        • Whitehall Chamber of Commerce Scholarship (separate application process)

  • Make a copy of your completed Main Catasauqua Scholarship Application for each of the scholarships to which you are applying.

  • Turn in your entire application packet on or before the deadline listed above.

Alex Sofish Memorial Scholarship

  • $500.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior who plans to attend a Commonwealth Campus of Penn State University

  • Emphasis on the candidate's academic merit, leadership, and community service

  • Must provide proof of acceptance and enrollment to Penn State University

Barrasso Award for Math/Science (Female)

  • $1000 award

  • Given to a CHS senior (female) pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (4 year) in Math and/or Science

Barrasso Award/Vincent E. Spess Award for Community Service

  • $1000 award

  • Community Service (church, community, fundraising, etc.) based award

Barrasso/Dale Buss Award for Science Education

  • $1000 award

  • Given to a CHS senior pursuing Science Education (preference for Biology Teacher majors)

CAEA Scholarship

  • Award amount & number of awards vary annually

  • Given to a CHS senior who plans to enter the teaching profession

  • Must provide proof of 4 year college acceptance and enrollment

Carl Kratzer Award for Community Service

  • $100.00 award

  • Community Service (church, community, fundraising, etc.) based award

Catasauqua Alumni Scholarship

  • $250.00, two awards available

  • Given to a CHS senior w/ 4 year college plans

  • Emphasis placed on school activity involvement

  • Community Service hours preferred

  • NHS members are encouraged to apply

Catasauqua Community Partnership Award

  • Award amount varies

Catty Crew Award

  • Award amount varies annually,, two awards available

  • Given to two (2) CHS seniors who best represent strong leadership, citizenship, and dedication to the community.

  • Emphasis placed on the candidate's involvement in CHS athletics, clubs, and/or activities

  • Candidates should inspire others to embrace the spirit of being a Rough Rider

 

    

Mrs. Nothstein's Helping Hands Scholarship

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to a CHS senior who has participated in at least one CHS drama production

  • Preference given to the pursuit of a degree in the arts, but not required to apply

Earl Stengel Memorial Award (Class of 1932)

  • $500.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior football player

Erik Hirner Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Preference given to candidates who demonstrate some or all of the following:

    • Community service

    • Volunteer firefighter

    • plans to attend Muhlenberg College

    •  pursuit of a career in medicine (doctor or physician's assistant)

    • career as a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, law enforcement, first responder

    • plans to join a branch of the military

 

    

James P. O'Mara Scholarship Award

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to a CHS senior attending Lehigh or Kutztown University upon graduation

  • Preference given to the candidate's academic merit and one's financial need

 

    

Jeff Scherer Memorial Award

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to any CHS senior who has been involved in athletics

Jim Kappes Memorial Scholarship

  • $250.00 award

  • Preference given to a candidate who demonstrated strong character and having to overcome hardship

Joseph John Meeko Memorial Award

  • $25.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior (male) who has been active in the community with volunteer work

Kenneth C & Shirley J. Wotring Memorial Scholarship

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to a CHS senior who plans to attend an approved trade, technical, vocational, business school, LCCC or NCC degree program

Leonard Carlton Peckitt Scholarship

  • Award amount varies annually, but renewable annually for the award recipient

  • Given to a CHS senior who plans to attend a 4 year college/university

  • Preference given to candidates with demonstrated financial need

  • Emphasis placed on the candidate's cumulative GPA and class rank

  • Must provide proof of one's 4 year college acceptance and enrollment

  • This award cannot be given to the sibling of a previous recipient

Mark Moser Memorial Scholarship Award

  • $100.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior planning to major in physical therapy or physical education (or similar major)

Mary B. Meeko Humanitarian Award

  • $25.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior (female) who has been active in the community with volunteer work

Merk Reccek Award

  • $50.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior majoring in one or more of the following majors:

    • Law

    • Political Science

    • Journalism

    • Nursing

Michael Fickes Award

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to a CHS senior involved with CHS football

  • Players and team managers are eligible to apply

Michael H. Yaroma Memorial Integrity Scholarship

  • $1000.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior who demonstrates integrity as an essential life skill

Michelle Shinksky Mason Award (Class of 1970)

  • $500.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior attending a trade or technical school

Raymond F. Hoffman Educational Fund

  • Award: interest-free loan to pursue one's post-secondary education

  • Given to a CHS senior who is of the Protestant religious affiliation

  • Emphasis on the candidate's character

Robert S. Spengler/Bernadine S. Wehr Memorial Scholarship

  • $250.00 award, two awards available

  • Given to a CHS senior male and CHS senior female continuing their education in the medical field

Sheckler Elementary Scholarship

  • Award amount varies annually

  • Given to a CHS senior who attended Sheckler Elementary School for at least one (1) year

Slovak Center Social Club of North Catasauqua Award

  • $500.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior who is a child, stepchild, grandchild, niece or nephew or a member in good standing with the Slovak Center Social Club

Stacey K. Bendzlowicz Memorial Award

  • $500.00 award

  • Given to a CHS senior at LCTI in the Culinary Arts lab program

Whitehall Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

  • $500.00 award

  • 3.0 (84%) GPA

  • Given to a CHS senior w/ 2 or 4 year college plans

Woman's Club of Catasauqua Scholarship Award

  • Award amount & number of awards vary annually

  • Given to a CHS senior who plans to further their education upon graduation from CHS
